Embarking on a journey into the world of dance and movement classes is an exciting endeavor. Whether you’re gliding gracefully in ballet, grooving to the rhythm in hip hop, or mastering gravity-defying flips in tumbling, one thing remains constant: your choice of attire can greatly impact your comfort and performance. Here’s a guide on what to wear to make the most of your ballet, hip hop, and tumbling classes.
Ballet/Jazz and Ballet/Creative Classes:
Ballet/Jazz and Ballet/Creative classes marries grace with style and fun, and your attire should reflect this balance. When heading to a ballet/jazz or ballet/creative class, here is what you should and should not wear.
SHOULD WEAR:
Leotard or Form Fitted Tank top: Choose a well-fitting top. These FORM FITTED TOPS allow your coach to assess your posture and technique, ensuring you receive the necessary guidance.
Tights: Tights are completely optional for our dance class. Any color or style will do. We sell nude convertible tights that work perfect for dancers with OR without shoes on. Visit our office to purchase a pair.
Ballet or Jazz Shoes: All dancers participating in the recital will automatically get 1 pair of dance shoes as part of the Recital Payment Plan! No need to buy any before attending class. We encourage dancers to wear their shoes to class to not only break them in, but also to get use to wearing them while dancing!
Bottoms: Dancers are welcome to wear any form fitted athletic wear on the bottom. From tumbling shorts, to leggings, or ballet skirts and tutus for the littles. The key here is making sure it is stretchy and form fitted.
Hair: Pull your hair into a neat bun or another secured style to keep it out of your face. This includes ensuring your bangs are neatly secured away from your face.
SHOULD NOT WEAR:
Joggers, baggy t-shirts, basketball shorts, jeans, sweaters, jackets.
Hip Hop Class:
Hip hop is all about self-expression and embracing the urban culture. Your outfit should mirror this energetic vibe:
SHOULD WEAR:
Loose-Fitting Clothing: Any comfortable athletic wear that you can move in is PERFECT for hip hop. Options include loose-fitting joggers, track pants, leggings, basketball shorts or bike shorts. A graphic t-shirt or tank top adds to the hip hop aesthetic.
Sneakers: Choose sneakers with good support and grip. They allow you to move freely and execute intricate footwork while keeping your feet protected.
Accessories: Feel free to add a cap, bandana, or a few statement accessories that reflect your personal style. These small touches can enhance your overall look and boost your confidence.
Hair: Keep your hair pulled back in a messy bun or a high ponytail.
SHOULD NOT WEAR:
Jeans, jeggings, dresses, coats, or other clothes that restrict your movement. Please no sandals, slippers or boots.
Tumbling Class: Think Flexibility and Safety
Tumbling classes require flexibility, strength, and a focus on safety. Dress appropriately for these dynamic movements:
Fitted Clothing: Wear form-fitting athletic wear like leggings or shorts along with a comfortable tank top or sports bra. This allows your instructor to see your body’s alignment and provides freedom of movement.
Shoes: Tumbling is often performed barefoot or with your MDS provided tumbling shoes to maintain a better grip on the floor and mats. All tumblers performing in the recital will receive one pair of tumbling shoes as part of their Recital Payment Plan.
No Jewelry: Remove any jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, watches, and earrings, to prevent accidents during tumbling routines.
Hair: Keep your hair securely tied back to avoid distractions and ensure your vision is unobstructed. We recommend braided ponytails or pigtails.
Remember, while the attire guidelines are important, your comfort, safety, and confidence are paramount. Whatever class you choose, the right clothing can make a significant difference in how you feel and perform. So, step into your chosen dance style with the appropriate attire and let your passion shine through your every move.
