We Don’t Compete! Here’s Why
We Don’t Compete! And that’s totally ok. Here’s why we don’t, because sometimes we do get questions as to why. Often times, we have parents looking specifically for studios like ours that have performance teams but that don’t go to competitions.
This post might come off as blunt. It might come off as a hot topic! It’s One Hundred Percent ok if there are differences of opinion here. We, as a studio staff and ownership, have chosen to not compete in dance competitions for a couple reasons:
- Competitions can be incredibly expensive. If you look back on the post about why Maxwell Dance Studio was started, you’ll read that our amazing owner Ashlee wanted her studio to be affordable for every household, no matter their income. To keep with that mantra, competitions are not in our future.
- A Huge reason, likely the number one reason, why we choose to not compete, is because we have an immense desire to keep the innocence of this next generation. Competitions have, for the most part (not stepping on toes!), have become sexualized. Remember we said it was blunt?? The costumes, the dance moves. It’s not for us. And that’s ok! Many of our teachers grew up as competitive dancers, but the world has changed. We hold ourselves, as a studio, to a standard of modesty and wholesomeness that you might not find everywhere else.
